One Friday Night Covers The Whole Expo

The 24th Annual DC/Maryland Black College Expo runs Saturday, March 13, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. The listing gives four hours and 30 minutes, 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

That window settles the lodging arithmetic. The expo opens and closes inside a single Saturday.

Which night to book

The event falls on a Saturday. The night that puts a family at the doors by 10:00 a.m. is Friday, March 12.

A Saturday night starts after the expo closes at 2:30 p.m. It buys a bed and a Sunday drive home.

Friday, March 12, one night.

The drive-in case

A family driving in can skip the room. The expo ends at 2:30 p.m., which leaves daylight for the return trip.

The parking constraint decides that plan. The Convention Center has no public parking. More than 3,000 spaces sit within a three-block radius in surface lots and garages. The venue states that parking regulations are heavily enforced in the surrounding residential blocks. Those are the spaces this expo's arrivals compete for.

Metro removes the parking question. The building sits atop the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station on the Green and Yellow lines, directly adjacent to the station exit. The Red Line stops at Gallery Place-Chinatown, a five-minute walk.

The Friday night and the show before it

The same building hosts SATELLITE Conference & Exhibition from March 8 to 11, 2027. That show closes its exhibit hall on Thursday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m. and runs a closing keynote from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Its four-night block runs Sunday, March 7 to Thursday, March 11, so those rooms release on the Thursday morning.

Two days later the expo needs one night in the same district. Book it early and confirm the reservation in writing.

Ask for the 3:00 p.m. checkout

A late-morning checkout leaves a gap to the 2:30 p.m. close. A family that checks out in the late morning carries bags to the hall or leaves before the last seminar.

Ask for a 3:00 p.m. checkout when booking. Ask three things with the request: the checkout hour in writing, whether a late checkout is free or priced, and whether the hotel holds luggage after checkout.

Make the request at booking. Every family in the hall needs the same afternoon.

The ticket carries no refund

The listing states its refund position twice. The "Good to know" block reads "Refund Policy: No refunds", and the organiser's copy reads: "Due to enormous cost to host this event and our commitment giving scholarships from money raised to students, there are NO REFUNDS!"

A cancelled trip costs the ticket. A rate that returns the room recovers the lodging.

The listing's aggregate ticket price runs $9.10 to $12.29.

What the Saturday holds

The expo is a college fair with on-the-spot admissions. The listing tells students to bring plenty of copies of transcripts to "Get Accepted on The Spot".

Seminars cover financial aid and scholarships, starting a business, the student athlete, and college against high school. The listing advertises "Over 5 million in Scholarships!" and welcomes high school students, college transfer students, underclassmen, adult learners and the whole family.

The organiser is the National College Resources Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its listing describes 25 years of work, more than 500,000 students into college and over $1 billion in scholarships secured.

The tax line

The District taxes transient accommodations at 15.95 percent, extended through September 30, 2027, so it applies to a March 2027 stay. A $250 room becomes $289.88.

Compare rates after tax. A $180 rate before tax comes to $208.71. A $205 rate that already includes the tax is the lower total.

The booking order

Book Friday, March 12 for one night.

Ask for a 3:00 p.m. Saturday checkout in writing at booking.

Ask whether the rate includes the 15.95 percent District tax.

Ask for the cancellation deadline in writing, and take a rate that returns the room if the trip falls through.

If the family drives in, reach a garage within three blocks before 10:00 a.m., or take the Green or Yellow line to Mt. Vernon Square.
