Capitol Hill Housing: The October 28 General Opening

General hotel registration for the Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic opens on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 10am EST. The earlier route into the tournament housing closed on October 1. Clubs that missed the Loyalty window now work from one date, and the tournament field closes when it fills.

The Classic runs February 13 to 15, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The event lists 122 courts and 968 teams across Halls A through E and the ballroom. Entry costs $1,100 plus processing fees. Housing sits inside the acceptance rules, so the room contract is part of the entry.

The window that closed on October 1

Team registration opened on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 10am EST. The Loyalty Hotel application link arrived after a club registered and paid its entry fee in Otto Event, the platform the site also calls SportWrench. The Loyalty program closed that same day at 10pm EST.

Twelve hours covered the whole Loyalty cycle. A club that paid its entry at 11am held most of the day. A club that paid at 11pm held nothing.

The event pages print both October hours as EST, and both dates fall inside daylight saving time. Check the hour on your own clock before the window opens.

What the Loyalty program asked

Loyalty teams commit to using 90 percent of the rooms they originally booked. The Stay and Play FAQ states the figure. Loyalty teams also give up eligibility for a refund of the team registration fee.

The General program and its 18 room nights

Each team booking through General Hotels must hold 18 room nights on a single THS contract. The site gives the example of six rooms for three nights, and it forbids two teams from sharing one contract.

Six rooms times three nights equals 18. The tournament runs Saturday February 13 through Monday February 15. A Friday February 12 check-in with a Monday February 15 checkout covers three nights and leaves Monday night without a room. A Tuesday February 16 checkout covers four nights, which is 24 room nights on six rooms.

A team that falls below 18 room nights gets one contact from THS and 24 hours to correct the shortfall. After that window the housing contract and the tournament entry may be cancelled. The FAQ adds that hotel deposits and entry fees already paid are non-refundable, and that re-entry restarts the application date used to set the acceptance order.

What October 28 opens

General Hotel Registration opens at 10am EST through THS, the event housing agent. October 28 falls 27 days after the Loyalty window closed. The housing desk answers at (908) 979-0928 and at CHVChotels@thsweb.com, and it books at THSweb.com.

Not every reservation counts. Reservations booked directly with a hotel, and rooms redeemed with reward points, add nothing to a team room-night total. A reservation counts when the booker assigns it to the athlete team during checkout. A club that has not entered the event and paid in Otto Event will not appear on that assignment list.

Parent rooms count toward the team

Parents who book through THS at an approved hotel add room nights to their athlete team. The Spectator Hotels page recommends that athletes share rooms with family members where possible. The same page warns that a cancellation can affect the team acceptance status and that financial penalties may apply.

The field fills by division

Acceptance begins in late October. The event accepts teams division by division and continues on a rolling basis until every spot is filled. Registration closes when the field is full. October 28 opens a booking window and a race at the same moment.

Getting to the courts

The convention center sits above the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station on Metro Green and Yellow lines. The Red Line Gallery Place-Chinatown station stands a five-minute walk away.

A club that books outside the block gains nothing toward the room-night requirement. That requirement decides acceptance.

The week ahead

Three tasks fit inside the seven days before October 28. Confirm that the club and team names appear in Otto Event. Set an alert for 10am EST on October 28. Decide the checkout night before booking, because the Monday play day and the room count pull in different directions.

The event lists 968 teams and 122 courts, and registration closes when the field fills. The room contract is how a club stays inside that number.
