The week in one place
The National League of Cities brings its Congressional City Conference to the Marriott Marquis from March 15 to March 17, 2027. Pre-conference sessions run March 13 and 14. NLC puts the crowd at more than 2,000 local leaders and advocates. The venue address is 901 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001. Hill Day closes the week on March 17 at the Capitol. Registration opens in November 2026 during City Summit.
Saturday morning starts the arrivals
NLC's planning schedule is still the 2026 grid, and the page says so: it does not fully reflect 2027 and is subject to change. The day pattern holds. In 2026 the conference ran Saturday, March 14, to Wednesday, March 18. In 2027 it runs Saturday, March 13, to Wednesday, March 17, with every date one day earlier and every weekday kept.
The 2026 Saturday opens registration and the Ask NLC desk at 8 a.m. and closes it at 5 p.m. On the 2027 calendar that first desk hour lands on Saturday March 13. A guest who wants the first slot books the Friday night, March 12. A delegate staying for pre-conference and leaving after Hill Day holds Friday March 12 through Thursday March 18, which is six nights.
Sunday carries the second wave. The 2026 Sunday desk runs 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and that suits a delegate arriving for the Monday opening session.
Tuesday carries three services and two receptions
The 2026 Tuesday holds a ticketed Celebrate Diversity Breakfast from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. A luncheon and general session runs 12:30 to 2 p.m. The Hill Day training session for participants runs 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The NLC Evening Reception runs 8 to 10 p.m. An invite-only Late Night Partner Reception follows from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Hold kitchen and bar staff for the training hour and for both receptions.
Wednesday clears the lobby at nine
The 2026 Wednesday opens with a grab-and-go breakfast from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Hill Day runs from 9 a.m. for the rest of the day, and the Hill Day page tells registrants to plan the entire day. Delegations leave the property in one wave. The breakfast peak runs short and hard, the lobby goes quiet at midday, and the return flow arrives in the late afternoon. Hill Day carries no extra fee and stays limited to elected officials, city staff and State Municipal League staff.
Wednesday March 17 is the last conference night, and Thursday March 18 carries the checkout load.
Five registrations bring a sixth
Groups of five or more receive a complimentary sixth registration. Every registration must be paid in full, and all individuals must register at the same time. Spouse and guest, student, youth chaperone and youth delegate categories do not count toward the five.
A city that registers five and brings a sixth books five or six rooms. The how-it-works page on this site states that most hotels offer group rates at 10+ rooms per night, and that some properties offer discounts at 5.
The published special rates name the attendee types. The 2026 figures run $745 for a first-time attendee, $355 for a youth delegate or youth chaperone, $335 for a university student and $300 for a guest or spouse. NLC states that the 2027 figures are subject to change.
What the organisers do not publish
No nightly rate, block code, cut-off date or attrition clause appears on any NLC page this piece read. The rates, why-attend, schedule, Hill Day and home pages use the word hotel zero times. The one lodging detail is the Marriott Marquis named as the venue.
Housing runs through registration. The rates page states that registering online is the quickest path to a registration and to housing. It names Maritz Global Events as the contact: nlc@maritz.com, (864) 208-2901, and (747) 226-7785 from outside the United States. General conference questions route to conferences@nlc.org.
The published cancellation terms are 2026 terms. A request goes in writing to NLC@maritz.com by February 20, 2026, carries a $125 fee, and nothing is accepted by phone. Substitutions are permitted at any time. NLC publishes no 2027 cut-off date, so ask the organiser for one in writing before a contract quotes attrition.
Put the tax in the quote
The District's temporary rate on transient accommodations is 15.95%. The Office of Tax and Revenue notice extends that rate through Sept. 30, 2027. That date covers a March 2027 stay. A $250 nightly rate bills at $289.88 with the tax applied. Quote the inclusive number.
What reaches the inbox
A delegation of five or six rooms reaches hotels as one request. This site notifies 50+ qualified hotels in the destination, and hotels answer with competing quotes within 24 to 72 hours. The group pays the property directly. The hotel pays the site a commission on a booking, and the rate carries no markup.
The dates to hold are March 12 for the first arrival and March 13 for the first desk hour. Then March 16 for the two meal services, March 17 for Hill Day and the last night, and March 18 for checkout. Registration opens in November 2026.
